CASTELLON: A PLACE FOR MEETINGS AND CONGRESSES
According to a study carried out by the Spain Convention Bureau, Spain
has become one of the world’s leading destinations for meetings ahead of
countries like the United Kingdom, Japan and the United States. The
report from the Congress and Conference Association (ICCA) emphasises the
level of excellence that clients can enjoy in the country.
Urban venues offer a wide range of facilities such as conference halls,
meeting venues benefiting from the latest technological advances.
Recently a new movement has emerged in the world of marketing and shows –
‘Slow Cities’ for a ‘fast life’. This revolves around comfortable and
relaxed cities with an abundance of green areas which allow the client or
visitor to enjoy the local culture and gastronomy away from the noise and
pollution of larger cities.
To coincide with this new trend, Castellon is recognised as a perfect
venue where business and pleasure are easily matched and where the
magnificent beaches and the charming villages in the interior increase
the desirability and attraction of the city as a site for congresses and
meetings.
The Auditori i Palau de Congressos in Castellon and the Palau de
Congressos in Peniscola, under the direction of the INTUR Group, has
steadily seen an increase in the number of events such as concerts,
exhibitions, dinners, conferences, meetings and fairs both on a national
and international scale
THE AUDITORI I PALAU DE CONGRESSOS
The Auditori i Palau de Congressos
de Castelló, a building of remarkable architecture
characterised by its asymmetric shape, plays an important
role in establishing Castellón as a meeting centre.
The interior is characterised by its spaciousness and the
simplicity of the materials. White concrete, a sober, timeless
material, grey quartzite paving, wood, glass and steel have
been used in its construction. Space, light, and the 90,000
m2 park surrounding the Centre are the chief protagonists.
The park, one of the most important green lungs in the city,
is divided into 4 areas: the Jardín de los Naranjos,
la Colina, el Bosque Caduco and el Bosque de Morera.
BETWEEN
TWO SEAS
Castellón lies between two
seas, the Mediterranean and the endless fields of orange groves
of the region of la Plana. The city’s old quarter, established
by the Christians in the 13th century at the foot of an old
Moorish castle – hence the name Castellón - is
still structured around the original layout of the old Roman
camp. Many valuable monuments from different periods and styles
are to be found throughout the city. Beyond the municipal
boundaries, between the coast and the interior, a host of
landscapes await visitors: the sea, the islands, the beaches,
the orchards, the orange groves, the farmhouses, the towns
and villages, the fields, the mountains…
CROSSROADS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN
The city of Castellón, located
near Valencia, halfway between Madrid and Barcelona, is a
crossroads within an active commercial and industrial area.
It is well connected to the rest of the Iberian Peninsula
by the N-340 road, the A-7 motorway and the railroad running
along the Mediterranean corridor, the main communication axis
between Eastern Andalusia and the French border, as well as
Western Europe and North Africa.
